Modernisation programme

When the properties were transferred from Cherwell District Council's Housing Department to Charter Community Housing in March 2004, all tenants were informed of the type of improvement that Charter intended to carry out within a 3 and a 7 year programme following transfer.

The improvements proposed consisted of at least one of the following:

• Installation of central heating where none is present, and the upgrade of partial central heating
   
• Installation of double glazed windows and/or doors where single glazing present
   
• New kitchens and/or bathrooms.

A programme of works was agreed with the tenants, and Charter began the improvements on day one.  To date, the programme of works is well ahead of schedule.

In the first 2 years, we achieved the following:

• Installed/upgraded 1200 central heating systems
   
• Installed double glazed windows and doors to 1050 properties 
   
• Installed new external double glazed doors to 288 properties where double glazed windows already existed
   
• Installed 338 new kitchens
   
• Installed 69 bathrooms
